The local community and in particular Castleblayney Tidy Towns Community
were left disgusted and appalled at
the destruction caused by arsonists
who set fire to one of the boat jetty’s
at the beautiful and scenic Mindszenty Park
at Lakeview.
The fire was started around 1.30pm yesterday and the local fire brigade was immediately called to deal with the incident.
Mindszenty Park was a unique project which involved a partnership between Castleblayney Tidy Towns and Castleblayney Town Council. Support for the project was received through the following bodies, The Eastern Fishery Board,
the Interreg IIIA Programme, Groundwork Northern Ireland, Monaghan County Council and CASA.
It comprised of fishing stands, boat jetty,
boat launch, parking area and landscaping area. Mindszenty Park was officially opened by Big Tom in July 2008.
Gardai are currently investigating the matter and lets hope the perpetrators are brought to justice.
