Scout Hall Trustees are planning a major fund raiser for the re-opening of the Scout Hall in the form of a Race Night on the 16th March and are appealing for support from the local community. The event will take place in the Hall commencing at 9.30pm and a number of novelties are also planned including a raffle and auction
on the night. Those wishing to support the refurbishment work can buy a horse at €10 or Sponsor a race at €100 or Co-sponsor a race
at €50.
The Scout Hall is one of the most important buildings in the area and is extensively used by a variety of groups who carry out important community activities.
Following the discovery of serious decay in the original flooring in January some major work was needed to the hall and resulted in the doors being closed to the public for several months. However the work while necessary has come at a cost and the Scout Hall Trustees are appealing for support from the local community.
Tom Mc Guigan who is involved with the fundraising event feels a good response to the Race Night would go a long way to covering the costs of the work. He stated that in any given week almost 300 people young and old alike pass through the doors of the local hall and he is particularly asking these people or their families for their support.
Tom praised the role of Castleblayney Community Enterprise Ltd who has responsibility for the day to day care, maintenance and management of the hall which is run on a non profit basis to ensure maximum use by groups within the community.
Those wishing to support the fundraising event are asked to call Castleblayney Enterprise Centre on (042)9746087.
