French business linkages explored by local business men.

3/4/2010 12:49:57 PM

Leixi A group of local business men along with the Town Mayor Joe Brennan travelled to Marseillan in Southern France last weekend on the invitation of the Mayor there Yves Michel.

The delegation which also included the President of the Chamber of Commerce Patrick McFadden were exploring possible opportunities for linkages between the French town Marseillan and Castleblayney which would in particularly boost their respective local economies.

Castleblayney is officially twinned with Nogent Sur Vernisson in central France and formal exchanges have already taken place between both towns however the visiting group were there merely to investigate further business and tourism links with Marseillan which by its location on the Mediterranean offers additional interests.

Marseillan which borders the Mediterranean Sea and has splendid beaches is also renown for fish, wines and tourism. Further more it boasts of 300 sunny days in a year.

During their visit there which will be reciprocated in May this year the group from Castleblayney received a civic reception and were hosted in exemplary fashion by the Mayor and other elected representatives. During their stay they were also taken on visits to Noilly Prat wine company which exports world wide and also to the local wine company La Madaline Saint-Jean.

They were also given a tour of a local shellfish farming company Medithau Tidal Marseillan which produces oysters using an innovative process of farming. The family run business employs 40 people and has €7.5 million turnover per annum.

Town Mayor Joe Brennan was full of praise for his counterpart in Marseillan who he said “basically rolled out the red carpet for the Castleblayney group”.
