“The Growing in Peace” Project Launch took place on 9th February in the Iontas Centre with Guest Speakers: Sylvia Gordon from Groundwork Northern Ireland and Michael Kelly from Grow it Yourself Ireland (GIY).
"The Peace Project" aims to bringing people together to work & engage with each other in the setting of a community garden. People of all backgrounds will come together to grow food (and learn how to grow food) with the resulting produce being shared among the participants, whilst engaging with neighbours new and old and as such building good community relations.
The Growing in Peace Project is an ambitious project involving the setting up of five community gardens within in hinterland of the town the sites are as follows: Lakeview/Mindzenty Park, St Mary’s Hospital, Drumillard, Broomfield Construction Site, and a site belonging to Kingspan on the Shercock Road.
The project is funded under the Monaghan CDB Peace III & Reconciliation Partnership.
