Preparations are getting under way for the 21st Castleblayney Drama Festival which opens early in March in Íontas Theatre Castleblayney. This year’s festival will be adjudicated by Peter Sheridan, brother of well known film director Jim Sheridan and a well known author, playwright and adjudicator in his own right.
The festival begins on Friday 5th March and continues through until the following weekend , featuring five groups in the Open section and three in the Confined section. Highlights of this year’s festival include two Brian Friel plays, “Freedom of the City” and “The Gentle Island”, “The Caretaker” by Harold Pinter and “The Plough and the Stars” by Sean O’Casey which concludes the festival on Saturday 13th March. Patrons who are familiar with the festival and the amateur drama movement will also look forward to the visit of Silken Thomas Players who present “The History Boys” by Alan Bennett.
